Dustproof Mechanism for Folding Knives

The aim of the development was to build a mechanism for a folding knife, which would combine the advantages of folding knives (little space needed, no separate sheath needed) with the advantages of fixed blade knives (to be used with one hand, clearance-free, high degree of functional safety even in dirty environment).
In order to comply with this aim, all stop surfaces are placed on a cam, which is situated on the tang inside the dustproof housing. So knives with the following characteristics, unique in their combination, can be built:
1. To be opened and closed with one hand, also when wearing gloves.
2. Completely sealed, dustproof, thus high safety.
3. No disturbing button or unsanitary dirt-collecting groove on the blade.
4. No strength-reducing notches on the tang or the blade.
5. Safe and clearance-free locking of the blade, even after long-term use.
6. Ergonomic unlocking button largely protected against unvoluntary unlocking.
7. To unlock and close, it is not necessary to bring any fingers within the pivoting range of the blade.
8. In the closed position the blade cannot be moved further and damaged therewith.
9. Optionally the blade can be locked also in the closed position.
10. Simple and sturdy construction with few parts.
As a consequence these knives are also suited for use under conditions where so far only fixed blade knives could prove.
